Thailand is becoming my cultural baseline. I have been here too long. Every country is to be compared to Thailand. I am beginning to think how weird it is in the U.S. I understand haggling over goods and services, to the point that I feel sorry for immigrants back home. What a let down it must be for those who come from this area when they go into an American shop -- without fervent negotiation, it must be a dispirited venture.
